Cupping
Cupping is an ancient therapy that utilizes glass or plastic cups to produce a suction on the skin, which lifts up the tissue creating space for blood to flow and increasing circulation. It is basically a reversed massage, instead of applying pressure, it creates a suction action. Cupping has been used to reduce pain, tension, improve circulation and to provide relaxation. They have lately gained popularity due to the Olympic games where we have seen major athletes such as Michael Phelps with cupping marks on his back. Athletes have been using cupping to improve range of motion and speed up tissue recovery. Usually the cups are kept in place for 10-15 minutes.
